Wednesday, September 25 ~ Algebra

Today we discussed finding solutions to linear equations.  On the homework, for numbers 14 - 17, students DO NOT need to graph the equation, they simply need to give me 3 solutions for each equation.  This process was demonstrated in class in the notes.

Homework: Pg 268, #6-9, 14-17, 44-48

Finding Solutions to Linear Equations

Wednesday, September 25 ~ Math 8

Irrational Numbers was our lesson today.  We discussed the difference between rational and irrational as well as how to compare them.

Friday, September 20 ~ Algebra

Almost everyone finished their Unit 1 test today.  Those who didn't can finish it up on Monday.

Homework for the weekend is to create a KWL chart.  I'll be collecting these on Monday and saving them for the end of the unit.  The topic is linear equations, Graphing , & systems of equations.

On the K(now) column, list everything you know about the column.  This is just coming from your head, so there are no right or wrong answers.

In the W(ant to know) column, list everything you want to know about the topic.  Again, this is from your own mind, so don't worry about looking up answers.

Leave the L(earn) column blank, we'll fill it out at the end of the unit!

Friday, September 20 ~ Math 8

We wrapped up our Unit today.  Students who needed to finish the test were given that opportunity.  Since we'll be starting our new unit on Monday, we had a rather relaxing day :)

We took a little personality survey & discussed the results and how they affect the way we learn.  Homework for the weekend is to make sure their Interactive Notebook pockets are cleaned out & the table of contents is up to date.

Thursday, September 19 ~ Algebra & Math 8

All classes took their Unit 1 Test today.  Those who didn't finish will have an opportunity to do so on Friday.

Homework was a worksheet review of what we learned.  Come see me for the worksheet!

Wednesday, September 18 ~ Algebra & Math 8

Today, we reviewed for our Unit 1 Test which will be tomorrow!  All students are allowed to create a 1/4 page cheat sheet to use on the test.

Your homework is to prepare for the test.

Tuesday, September 17 ~ Algebra & Math 8

All classes finished MAP testing today!  Homework is 1 side of a worksheet.

Come see me to get the worksheet for your class.

Monday, September 16 ~ Math 8 & Algebra

All classes began their MAP test today.  We will be finishing it tomorrow.

Homework for all classes tonight is to work on any missing work or test corrections which will be due no later than Thursday, September 19.

As Students finish their MAP test, I'm asking them to write them down in their planner.

A score of 230 indicates proficiency in 7th grade math.  Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions about the scores.

Wed - Fri, September 11-13 ~ Algebra 1

This week has flown by!

Wed:  Homework, Pg 205 #9-11, 18-22, 49

Task 2 Worksheet

Wed-Fri, September 11-13 ~ Math 8

The majority of our week was spent finishing up our Tasks.  Students needed to write their descriptive essay for the project, describing each of the transformations shown on the page.  We did at least 1 paragraph in class.

On Friday we self graded the project and then peer graded it as well before turning it in.

As a reminder, all missing work and test corrections are due by THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19.

Tuesday, September 10 ~ Algebra 1

Today we spent some time working on how to solve a word problem.  After that we started the notes on Solving Inequalities.  We'll continue those tomorrow

Homework for tonight is Pg 205 # 3-8

Tuesday, September 10~ Math 8

We continued working on our essay today.  Students had the whole period to work on their final essay as well as finish any parts of the TASK #1 project they needed too.

Task #1 will be turned in tomorrow.

The essay will be turned in as part of the interactive notebook check on Friday.

Monday, September 9 ~ Algebra

We talked about solving equations with variables on both sides of the equation.

Homework is on Pg 149, # 6-11, 18-20, 47, 63

Khan Academy Video on Equations with Variables on Both Sides

Monday, September 9 ~ Math 8

We are working to finish our Projects for this triad!  For your final task, you'll need to write a 1-2 page essay describing your paper.  Include what sorts of transformations you did (reflection, translation, etc.) and some examples as well.

We started the essay in class. Students need to describe AT LEAST the top row of transformations tonight.  We can discuss the column paragraph in class tomorrow.

Here is a basic intro to help you get started.

I began my art project by drawing a right triangle in quadrant 2 of my graph.  For the first transformation, I reflected the triangle across the x-axis.  This created a mirror image of the original triangle.  I found the new points of the vertices of my triangle by keeping the x-value the same and changing the y-value to the opposite.  For example, the point B(-3, 1) became B'(-3, -1).

We'll continue working on this tomorrow!

Friday, September 6 ~ Algebra 1

It was great to meet so many families last night at Back to School Night!  If you didn't make it last night, your student was sent home with a progress report for you to sign and return.  It is a homework grade so at the very least, I need a signature that states you know the current math grade.

We took a quiz today and I collected the student's Interactive notebooks to check.

Homework for tonight is Pg 177-178, # 6-26 even.

Have a wonderful Weekend!

This weekend's homework is part of your TASK 1 Worksheet #2.  You need to add some color to your picture.  A minimum of 10 colors need to be used.

Remember that I demonstrated in class how you can add several different colors to each graph by using the lines of the triangles as your guide.  Here is an example of something you could do!
Have a great Weekend!

Wow, I've gotten behind!  I apologize for that!

Here is what we've done this week:

Tuesday: Dilations Lesson, For homework, you need to graph 4 shapes and then dilate them using a scale factor.

Wednesday & Thursday:  We worked on our 1st Task!  The pages are attached, however, if you are struggling, please come and ask for help or stay for Tutoring next week.

Thursday's Homework was to fill out the entire #2 worksheet.  Basically, you just need to copy each triangle down in its column or Across in its row.  Again, come and see me for help!

Remember, Homework packets & Notes are due tomorrow and we will be having a quiz as well.
