Monday:  Today we did Task 1 in class.  The assignment is below and it is due on Tuesday.

Task 1

A customer would like an open box made from copper that has a volume of 120 cubic inches.  It needs to be three inches tall.  They don't care how wide it is, but it must be 3 inches longer than it is wide.  copper sheets are sold in rectangular pieces.  What re the dimensions of the copper sheet you should buy in order to build this box?  For extra points:  If copper costs$0.30 per square inch, how much will it cost to build this box?

Tuesday: To get us ready for Wednesday's lesson, today we learned how to solve equations using the square root method.  Homework is Pg 636, # 4-28 evens

Wednesday: Today we learned how to complete the square.  Complete the Square Video  Homework is Pg 646, # 3-8, 16-23

Thursday:  Today, students worked in class on Completing the square with more complex problems.  Homework is Pg 646 # 31-39

Friday:  Today we took a quick quiz on completing the square.   This weekend is a catch-up weekend.  Use it to do any missing work or test corrections that you may need to get done!

Math 8 ~ Week 4 ~ January 27 - 31

Monday:  Today we practiced writing an equation from a line or from 2 given points.  Homework is Pg 422 # 8-17

Tuesday:  Today's focus was on drawing a best fit line for a scatter plot.  Check out the video for some pointers. Best Fit Line Video Homework is the Best Fit Worksheet and is available in my room.

Wednesday:  Today we looked at how to use the best fit line to predict a value and how to find the equation of the best fit line.  Homework is Pg 422, # 7, 26, 33, 47

Thursday:  Today we did task 1 in class. If you were absent, you can make up tomorrow!

Friday: Today we finished Task 1.  The forms you need are attached.  I'll be collecting Task 1 on Monday.  To get full credit, you'll need to have the following in your packet:
~Data list (measurements of yourself and classmates)
            ~ Scatter Plot
~Best Fit Line on Scatter Plot
~1 Paragraph explaining how you know your best fit line is accurate and reasonable.

Algebra ~ Week 1 ~ Jan 6-10

Monday :  Time to get back in the swing of things!  We spent today reviewing the concepts of solving and factoring polynomials.  Homework is a Factoring worksheet.  If you need a copy, you can get one the classroom on the worksheet wall.

Tuesday:  Today we began factoring quadratic equations!  Remember that the method in the book is a little different from how I taught you today, so use your notes & check out the video for a reminder!  Factor Quadractics
Homework: Pg 559, # 3-17

Wednesday:  We finished up factoring our quadratic equations today with a lesson on solving them.  Remember, finding the roots means the same thing as being equal to zero!
Homework, Pg 559, # 22-25, 34-36, 38-40

Thursday:  Today we looked at how to use quadratic equations in solving word problems.
Homework, Pg 561, #64-70
